Description

The main aim is to exploit genetic variation (both natural and induced) for NUE in diverse germplasm collections of sorghum and pearl millet at ICRISAT. In addition another equally important objective is to build the capacity by developing community resources such as well characterized mutant populations and by training students, PDFs, researchers for a better future of these important areas of research for these underfunded but important cereals for small holder farmers in SSA and SA. This multidisciplinary project will address the hypothesis that measurable native variations exist for NUE in sorghum and pearl millet that such variation in combination with modern technology can be exploited to maximize the rate of genetic gains and yield stability of these crops under low N stress.
